FRIDAY FUN... FEEDBACK?

I want to hear from you! What's your dream sewing destination?
Let me know and I'll feature your answer in a future newsletter!

You might be thinking of sunnier climes after some ultra-belated snow, but I'm dreaming of the Alps! My wife and I last visited her family in Switzerland in 2019 and we're finally going to see them again this summer. I'm lucky to have traveled plenty, but Switzerland still tops my list as ABSOLUTE COOLEST DESTINATION OF ALL TIME for three things:

1. The HR Giger Museum in Gruyeres (guess what? they make Gruyere there too!!!)
2. The Maison d'Ailleurs (or the House of Elsewhere) in Yverdon-les-Bains, a museum of science fiction and utopia. If you're a genre fiction fan in any way, shape, or form, it's a must-see.

AND

3. The Textilmuseum. St. Gallen was bound to charm me: once upon a time I studied medieval art history, I've been a rare book dealer, and overall I'm still a huge nerd. The embroidery machine was invented in St. Gallen, and at the dawn of the 20th century fifty percent of all mass-produced fashion embroidery originated there! I could tell you about the museum exhibits (you, yes you, can operate a massive lacemaking machine the size of Treadle Yard Goods!), but to be completely honest the gift shop alone will enchant you. Imagine, if you will, all the pick-n-mix candy you can fit in a brown lunch bag... but it's all embroidered trim and Solstiss lace remnants. I treasure each scrap to this day.

The height of frippery: 19th century costumes from the Swiss National Circus Knie!
