Rayon Prints

New rayon prints in the store!

These fabrics are soft, drapey, lightweight, and cool to wear, since rayon is made from cellulose fibers. That means it behaves a lot like cotton, but with more swish!

Shop them here!

Daytime Beginning Sewing

Treadle is known for our outstanding classes, and we love bringing new sewers to this hobby with our Beginning Sewing class!

This class is usually held just in the evenings and on weekends, but we've added a daytime session that's perfect for folks with different schedule needs.

Daytime Beginning Sewing will run Wednesday mornings, 10:30 to 1:30, May 3 through 24.

Brussels Washer

Our favorite linen & rayon blend is restocked in lovely, wearable colors.

This bottomweight blend has the texture and body of linen paired with the drape and swoosh of rayon. It's ideal for pants, dresses, skirts, and jackets!

Friday Fun Fact!

Hey folks, it's me Elizabeth, talking about historical fashion with you again!

Fashion history is full of weird and wild trends. But sometimes you might not realize you're looking at a satirical image that's poking fun at the trends, not the actual thing worn by real people!

Satirical prints became popular in the 18th century and really boomed with Punch magazine in the 19th century.

Prints that satirized popular fashion often took a trend and carried it to an absurd extreme.

At right, I've attached some of my favorite fashion satire images to examples of what the real thing would have looked like at the time.

Next time you see an article about "10 Fashion Trends Men Hate," think about all these ways men have hated everything we've worn for centuries! (And then go wear whatever the heck you want!)

Check out all our Friday Fun Facts in the archive here!
