Carpeting can't keep us down

Open during construction

We're sprucing up the place! New carpet is coming in next week, and we will remain open regular hours. We're laying down carpet tiles in sections so hopefully we can keep operations seamless. (pun intended!)

If you've wondered why the store is a little less full than usual lately, well this is why. Once we redo our floors we can fill up with more beautiful fabrics.

New Clearance Items Added

Most of these fabulous new items are not listed on our website, so you'll have to stop by and see them yourself!

Plus, our pattern clearance continues! Take 50% - 75% off the original price on select Burda, Vogue, New Look, and more!

Garment Sewing Group Highlights

Last Saturday was Garment Sewing Group at Treadle! Here are a few of the projects shared by attendees.

You can join a Garment Sewing Group meeting every month at Treadle, on the second Wednesday or Saturday of the month.

Masks at Treadle

Last week there was some concern expressed in our Instagram comments about photos of mask-less people in the store. As of now:

Staff are required to wear masks during store hours.

Students in our classes are required to wear masks during class.

Everyone else is respectfully requested to wear a mask while in the store.

Friday Fun Fact!

Let's talk about stay-stitching.

Often the first step in sewing directions, the job of a stay-stitch is to prevent the fabric edge stretching and warping. It's usually done on a curved area such as a neckline, armhole, or waistline.

Here's what you need to know about stay-stitching:

* It's done through only ONE layer - you're not joining any pieces yet, just reinforcing.

* Use a normal length straight stitch.

* Check your directions for seam allowance! A stay-stitch is usually done at a smaller allowance than the seamline, and necklines can specify as little as 1/4". Listen to your pattern.

* Go in the direction of the arrows, if any. This might mean doing two passes.

* It doesn't matter which side of the fabric is facing up.
