SUPPLIES FOR TREADLE CLASSES

A supply list will be mailed to you upon registration. ALL required supplies MUST be brought to your first class, unless otherwise noted. Students receive a 15% discount on all fabric purchases for the duration of your class.

You can find all supplies for sale at our store unless otherwise noted. Our staff will be happy to assist you in gathering your supplies!

Most classes require the following BASIC SUPPLIES:

  • sewing machine in good working order (and sewing machine manual)
  • bobbins
  • sewing scissors
  • tape measure
  • straight pins
  • seam ripper
  • 6" seam gauge
  • washable fabric marker or chalk pencil
  • one package of assorted size Universal sewing machine needles

NO SEWING MACHINE?
Treadle has a limited number of sewing machines available for use during class on a first come/first served basis. Please reserve when you register.

Basic Sewing Series Classes

BEGINNING APPAREL SEWING - supply list
  • Basic Sewing Supplies (see above)
  • 1/2 yard cotton muslin
  • Please budget $25 - $50 for project supplies. Final pattern and fabric selections will be made during first class. Cost will vary with project choice.

CONTINUING ON - APPAREL SEWING IN THE REAL WORLD - supply list

HAND SEWING BASICS - supply list

  • hand sewing needles (small "sharps" are preferred)

Serger classes

BASIC SERGERY & BEYOND - supply list
  • serger in good working order
  • serger manual (VERY IMPORTANT - download online if you don't have one)
  • ALL tools and accessories associated with your serger
  • Four different colors of cone thread (helpful if it matches the four colors on serger tension dials)
  • small scissor or thread snips

  • Sample fabrics will be provided along with a child-size cotton knit tee to construct in class and take home or donate

  • Notes:
    • for swants (sweater-pants) you need a large sweater with big sleeves you can fit your legs into
    • for mittens, you may wish to make your sweaters into felt in advance. To do this, machine-wash 100% wool sweaters in very hot water several times, until desired felted texture is achieved

BEAUTIFUL SEAMS AND HEMS - supply list

  • pattern: a shirt, dress, or jacket you would like to make. If you have more than one possibility, great! If not, get help choosing in class. Patterns should have design lines that allow for fitting. For example, a shirt with darts and set-in sleeves is a better choice than one with dolman sleeves and a loose fit.
         (All sewing will be done outside of class)
